What broadband users want
South African broadband services are typically associated with high prices and slow speeds, and the recent Broadband & ISP survey confirmed that local broadband subscribers still value price and download speed the most.
In the survey – which was completed by 1448 broadband subscribers – subjects were asked to order the various components of a broadband service from the most important to the least important. These components included price, download speed, upload speed, latency, support and reliability.
From the survey feedback an ‘importance value’ was calculated for each component which gives the importance of a component in relation to the other components. The results were not surprising: local broadband users are focus on price and download speeds when purchasing a service.
The following table provides an overview of which components of a broadband service are the most important to consumers. It should be noted that monthly usage limits (caps) are incorporated in the price of a broadband service.
