Vodacom shows strong broadband growth
Vodacom today announced that they increased their 3G/HSDPA subscriber base to 139 000, up 366% from last year’s 38 000 subscribers.
These numbers are for the year ending 31 March 2007 and this impressive growth is expected to accelerate even further on the back of their aggressive price reductions earlier this year.
According to a source the company’s data usage has more than doubled after their substantial cut in data rates a few months back. This gives an indication of the growth seen since this move.
The total number of active data users on the South African Vodacom network as at March 31 2007 was: MMS users 1.2 million, GPRS users 2.8 million, 3G/HSDPA users 139 000, 3G/HSDPA devices 733 000, Vodafone live! Users 899 000 and Unique Mobile TV users 33 000.
Data revenue currently constitutes 9.4 % of Vodacom’s service revenue, up from 7.0 % last year.
Vodacom said that data revenue in all countries increased substantially, confirming the trend of increased data spend by customers.
