Caps will increase ten-fold, says Goldstuck
World Wide Worx managing director Arthur Goldstuck recently unveiled the Internet Access in South Africa 2008 report, predicting significant growth in the Internet and broadband markets over the next few years.
One of the highlights of his presentation was the prediction that Seacom would alleviate much of the pent-up demand for international bandwidth when it became operational by mid-2009.
“A broadband culture is held back only by the restrictions still placed on data capacity. These should start becoming a non-issue from the middle of 2009, as the first of the major new undersea cables enters operation,” said Goldstuck.
The World Wide Worx MD also predicted that bandwidth caps would increase significantly in size next year: "1GB will become 10GB and 3GB will become 30GB". “Data caps will shoot up, for the same price,” Goldstuck said, and this can be expected to happen around September 2009.
Goldstuck further predicted that Telkom would double its ADSL usage allowances between March 2009 and June 2009 in anticipation of changes which would be brought about by Seacom.
