Vodacom ‘double data’ warning
Numerous Vodacom subscribers received a surprise this morning when they checked their data bundle sizes and found that it was double the normal allowance.
“I noticed this morning when I logged on to vodacom4me to check the status of my data bundle that the total bundle has doubled in size. It used to be 2 GB and earlier this year Vodacom increased it to 2.2 gig. This morning it showed 4.4 gig total bundle,” said one subscriber.
“I’ve got an iPhone contract which comes with 250mb data a month. The past month with the promotion I’ve been getting 275mb. This morning, I got another 275mb all of a sudden. There has been no increase in the cost of the bundles as it is still in contract,” said another user.
Speculation started that Vodacom may have launched a promotion which coincided with the SEACOM launch, but the explanation is less encouraging. The double data bundle allowance seemed to have been caused by a Vodacom billing system glitch. The company explained that their billing system is correct, but that it reflected incorrectly when users check their data.
Vodacom subscribers were warned not to exceed their standard data allowance: “Clients who exceed their balance will be billed according to their actual usage, not the incorrectly reported balance.”
