IS wont miss a beat

Dimension Data recently announced that Internet Solutions CEO Angus MacRobert has resigned.  MacRobert is one of the most respected CEOs in the telecoms industry, and his resignation came as a surprise to many.

“Angus has been instrumental in growing the Internet Solutions business over the past eight years and the foundation for the company’s future success has been well established,” said Allan Cawood, chief executive officer, Dimension Data Middle East & Africa.

Dimension Data (Didata) announced that Derek Wilcocks has been appointed as the new Managing Director of Internet Solutions.  Wilcocks began his career with Didata in 1995, as founding Managing Director of Internet Solutions subsidiary Trusted Network Solutions.   He joined Internet Solutions a year later, (1996), becoming a board member and holding a number of Executive positions during his six years with the company; including the post of Managing Director from 1998 – 2001.

Wilcocks is now back at IS, and according to Cawood they expect a seamless transition.  “When we made the internal announcement, when we said Gus was leaving, I saw the faces – a little bit of shock. When we said Derek’s back, I saw the smiles. So it really was quite good,” said Cawood.

MacRobert said that he plans to ‘pursue personal opportunities’, but first needs to unwind and de-stress. MacRobert is however not expected to immediately emerge at one of the local telecoms operators, and Cawood said that that he is not expecting the IS CEO to work for a local competitor.
