MTN to educate public on Pay as You Go

MTN is planning to visit 98 towns and cities around SA over 5 months with the aim of educating consumers about Pay as You Go services.

According to the cellular provider, their previous campaign involving the MTN Yello bus was a success which has prompted them to repeat the exercise.

Donovan Smith, General Manager, Consumer Segment Marketing, MTN SA: “MTN has found that this is an extremely effective way for us to get close to our consumers and educate them in an entertaining way, in their communities, in their own language, about the services that are available to them as MTN Pay As you Go subscribers.”

“This has become so much more than an educational campaign – the communities we visit regard this as entertainment and because of the interactive nature, many of them show off their performing skills.”

Aside from the interactive industrial theatre shows, this year’s campaign includes product demonstrations, promotional activities, a comic book, branded giveaways as well as opinion leader involvement to create entertainment value for consumers.

Pay as You Go prices from the mobile providers in South Africa has been the source of much criticism from consumers. Tariffs on these products however have remained mostly unchanged despite the unhappiness expressed by the public.
