Knott-Craig to leave before October
Alan Knott-Craig today officially announced his decision to retire as CEO of the Vodacom Group no later than the end of September this year.
“It has been a privilege to be part of a company that helped to change South Africa from a country where only 10% of the population had a telephone in 1994, to one where cellular sim card penetration has reached 94% today, and to see telephone penetration increase rapidly in other African countries providing people, in many cases, with communication for the first time.
“This success has been due to the exceptional efforts of our staff in South Africa, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mozambique and Lesotho, as well as the excellence and commitment demonstrated by our business partners in all these countries,” Knott-Craig concluded.
The Board of Vodacom is expected to announce his successor in time to enable a smooth handover before September.
