iPhone out this week

The long-awaited Apple iPhone 2.0 is expected to be released in South Africa this week.

The phone, which was originally expected to be released in July this year, will be available through Vodacom which has an exclusive agreement for its distribution in South Africa.

According to the ZA Tech Show podcast (www.zatechshow.co.za), the iPhone will officially be available from this week in South Africa, although stock availability may affect how soon Vodacom customers will be able to get their hands on the phone.  Unofficial industry speculation suggests that the iPhone will be available from Vodacom on 26 September.

Customers that pre-ordered the phone through Vodacom will be the first in line to be able to upgrade to or buy an iPhone.

Although the iPhone 2.0 was on the receiving end of a great deal of hype when it was first launched some of that has already subsided as delays in launching the phone locally allowed other phone makers to take up the slack.

Phone’s such as Nokia’s E71 and HTC’s Diamond have both been launched into the market while the iPhone was delayed and are receiving very positive reviews.
