PMS girls go down

The question “Who are better gamers, guys …or girls?” may have been answered at the PLuGG Girls vs Guys Game Off event.

After many rounds of Counterstrike (CS) 1.6, the local lads from Bravado Gaming (BVD) beat the international girls’ team led by the PMS Clan, the world’s largest multi-platform online female gaming group.

PLuGG, the new consumer broadband division of Internet Solutions, hosted this first-of-its-kind event on Saturday, 29 November at the Turbine Hall in Newtown, Johannesburg.

Bravado won both rounds to take the title in the Game Off. In addition, the BVD team won a PLuGG sponsorship that includes a year’s worth of free bandwidth.

"Guys and Girls – the war has ended! After many hours of work, screaming and fighting BVD are victorious!” said Andreas ‘Cent’ Hadjipashali, the BVD team leader.

Two matches of Counterstrike 1.6 were played in the final. The first match was played on the de_nuke map. BVD won the deciding knife round and chose to play as the Counter Terrorists with the girls taking on the role of Terrorists. After 15 rounds, the teams swapped sides so that the PMS Clan could show their mettle as Counter Terrorists and a further 9 rounds were played.

The first match result was 16-8 to Bravado Gaming

The second and final match was played on the de_inferno map with BVD once again winning the knife round and choosing to play as CTs. After 15 rounds, the teams swapped sides and the cheering viewers encouraged the teams to keep fighting hard.

After a further nine rounds, the BVD boys emerged victorious as they beat the PMS Clan girls 16-8.

Amber Dalton, the PMS Team Manager, congratulated BVD on their win and said “This event has brought forward a new era for women in CS – an area where women compete regularly in male bracket events as a norm, not a once-off occurrence. We are proud to have been associated with this event and thank everyone for their support”.

The event MC was Duke Wellington, a well-known radio DJ personality, with Ryan Macquet as the shoutcaster for the evening, giving a live blow-by-blow account of the game.

In addition to enjoying the game play and party atmosphere, spectators were entertained by popular local band “Evolver” during the break between matches. The after party was hosted by DJ Sibot.

“PLuGG would like to thank both teams for providing incredible international level game play and entertainment on the night – the ‘death match’ situation was brilliant to watch. It just goes to show that, with the right backing, SA gaming can be lifted to international standards. Bravado has proved that our gamers are of exceptional talent and this must be recognised,” said Anthony Southgate, Marketing Executive at Internet Solutions.
