2008’s most downloaded games
Below are the top ten most downloaded games on Torrentfreak for 2008. Included in brackets are the official release dates for the games.

Not to many surprises this year, with high profile titles like Spore and The Sims 2 taking top honors.
There was a massive gap of 549000 downloads between Spore at number one and its closest competitor The Sims 2 in second place. This can be largely put down to the massive backlash Spore’s obtrusive DRM software caused in the gaming community.
Interestingly, the two most downloaded titles of the year are both the brain-child of one man, Will Wright, who must be wondering what he did wrong in a previous life to end up with the most copied intellectual property in the games industry.
Spore’s download figure is the highest ever recorded for a PC game, with half a million downloads in the first ten days.
