High end tech store: The best of breed

As a South African resident one is not starved for choice with regards to the latest technology products and equipment. The vast majority of newly released mainstream devices are more than likely to become available to local consumers, albeit at a later date.

Despite this there are a few choice releases which, until now, have not been readily available to the public. Vodacom’s flagship iMAGINE concept store, situated within the company’s Vodaworld centre, is going some way towards making these high end devices a reality in South Africa.

The store features a number of high end technology products previously not seen in South Africa. Most notable among these perhaps is Tag Heuer’s Meridiist mobile phone, which is on display. The device itself is currently selling for R163 000 and features a 60.5 carat crystal glass display, a stainless steel and leather design and a 2 Megapixel camera.

According to a store representative Vodacom brought in four units, two of which have already been sold. In addition, four units of a more luxurious Tag Heuer model (priced at R280 000) were also imported. These have since been sold; two to an anonymous customer.

Other noteworthy products in stock include the R70 000 Acer Aspire Predator gaming PC, the R47 899 LG PG70 borderless high definition television and the Sony X Series netbook, priced at R16 000 which features a 64GB solid state drive and weighs 750 grams.

BlackBerry owners can also have their devices personalised with Swarovski crystals for upwards of R5 000.

Even though many of the products in store are luxury, high ticket items the store has already cut even with December being a particularly profitable month. Although the iMAGINATION outlet is simply a concept store, Vodacom revealed that it hopes to see all Vodashops feature similar high end items in three to five years.
