MyBroadband gets news editor
Well known technology journalist and open source guru Alastair Otter has joined MyBroadband as its new news editor.
Otter has worked for more than 14 years in the South African media industry, both as a journalist and an editor. He is best known as the editor and owner of the open source news website Tectonic which he founded seven years ago.
Tectonic has grown to be one of the largest technology publications in South Africa and is the country's most respected open source publication.
Otter has worked for Engineering News, Business Report, Finance Week, Business Day and ITWeb, This Day and Personal Finance in the past and was editor of ITechnology, a consumer weekly published that was the most widely read technology publication in the country. He also spent two years at ITWeb as their technology editor.
Most recently Otter was the chief sub editor at Business Report, a position he held for a year and a half before joining MyBroadband.
Alastair is extensively involved in the telecoms sector. He was one of the founders of the Telecommunications Action Group, a consumer activist organization that has spoken out regarding the need for telecommunications reform in South Africa.
"I am very excited to be joining MyBroadband," said Otter. "MyBroadband is a respected publication which is the primary source of technology news for thousands of readers daily. I hope to bring my editing and writing experience to further enhance MyBroadband's growth."
MyBroadband’s Rudolph Muller said that Alastair was a logical choice to boost the website’s technology news coverage and improve the quality of content.
“In a recent survey our readers indicated that they would like to see a wider range and better quality content on MyBroadband, and Alastair was top of the list to help us achieve this goal. His knowledge of the technology industry and online publishing made him a logical choice as news editor,” said Muller.
