There will be a record number of live sports feeds – 151 in total – being received by SuperSport this weekend.

SuperSport will be taking 69 standard definition feeds and 16 high definition feeds from the Beijing Olympic Games and 66 other standard definition feeds during the course of the weekend.

The main source of the live incoming sport is the Beijing Olympics, which opens in the Chinese capital on Friday. There is live coverage of the Games on SuperSport, with seven channels – SS 5, SS Gold (6), SS 7, MaXimo, MaXimo 2, SS Extra (channel 198) and SS Extra 2 (channel 199).

DStv this week also launched the HD channel (170 on DStv) and there will be blanket coverage of the Olympics on this new platform.

Other major events this weekend include the fourth and final cricket Test match between England and South Africa from The Oval in London (on SuperSport 2 from 11.30am) and the final golf Major of the year, the US PGA Championship from Oakland Hills (on SuperSport 5 from 7pm on Friday, and on SuperSport 1 at 8.30pm on Saturday and 7.30pm on Sunday).

There is plenty of rugby, with two ABSA Currie Cup matches on Friday – Western Province against the Sharks from Cape Town on SS 1 at 7pm and the Blue Bulls against the Lions on SS 7 at the same time – and the Springboks’ clash against Argentina from Johannesburg on SS 1 at 2pm on Saturday.

Soccer fans are also catered for, with the traditional opening match of the English season, the Charity Shield from Wembley between Manchester United and Portsmouth, live on SS 3 at 3.45pm on Sunday.
