Top tech journalist moves on

Information Technology journalist Ben Kelly has accepted an analyst position at Ernst & Young after being head hunted by the international audit and business advisory firm.

Kelly is well known in the IT community, not only for his insightful and entertaining articles and columns in Finweek and Fin24, but also as a member of the ZA Tech Show team.

Kelly has been a technology journalist for around 10 years and started his career at ComputerWeek after a stint at Engineering News.  Before moving to Finweek Ben was the editor of CRN.

On the reason for moving out of journalism, Kelly said that Ernst & Young ‘made me an offer I could not refuse’.  Kelly will be a telecoms analyst at Ernst & Young in their global telecoms centre Africa, an area he says he is interested in, providing him with an insight into African telecoms that he would never be able to get as a journalist.

“This also gives me a chance to see professional life from the other side of the fence,” said Kelly.

Kelly is not certain as to whether he will still be involved in the ZA Tech Show, but he said that he remains committed to working on his blog Ungeeked

Kelly said that he has not ruled out returning to journalism in future, but for now he seems to be looking forward to what corporate life brings to the table.
