AMD announces cheaper CPUs
Component manufacturer AMD today announced the addition of five new CPUs to its Phenom II and AMD Athlon II processor families, aimed at mainstream desktop consumers.
The new additions include the Phenom II X2 555, which at a stock frequency of 3.2GHz is AMD’s fastest dual core CPU to date and features a TDP (thermal design power) of 80W, and the Athlon II X2 255 which operates at a stock frequency of 3.1GHz and has a TDP of 65W.
AMD has also introduced a new tri-core CPU in the Athlon X3 440, which runs at a frequency of 3.0GHz with a TDP of 95W, and the quad core Athlon II X4 635 which is clocked at 2.9GHz and has a 95W TDP.
Last among the new announcements is the Phenom II X4 910e, which operates at 2.6GHz and features a TDP of 65W – a significantly low measurement for a quad core processor.
According to the company the product introductions are “designed to give mainstream consumers advanced performance capabilities from their desktop PCs at increasingly attractive price points.”
Each of these newly announced CPUs include support for DirectX 11 gaming and AM3 compatibility.
Local release dates are yet to be announced but the confirmed price points for these additions are:
