Via opens hardware specs
Via Technologies has released the reference design files for its OpenBook Mini-Note. The company said it was releasing the original CAD drawings of its ultra-portable notebook design so that PC makers could build "the next generation of ultra-portable notebooks based on the Via Ultra Mobility Platform".
The Via OpenBook is a super-slim portable notebook weighing it at just 1kg. The OpenBook can be customised with WiMax, HSDPA or CDMA modules for connectivity as well as built-in AGPS (assisted GPS). Built on the Via C7-M processor, the OpenBook includes a 8.9-inch monitor.
The CAD files of the external panels of the reference design are made available by Via under a Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike 3.0 licence to give customers such as OEMs, system integrators, and broadband service providers greater freedom in tailoring the look and feel of their device to meet the diverse needs of their target markets, the company said.
"The VIA OpenBook builds on the great success of the VIA NanoBook reference design launched last year, which has been widely adopted by numerous customers around the world," said Richard Brown, vice president of corporate marketing at VIA Technologies. "Our unique open approach to case design customisation and wireless connectivity flexibility, coupled with the higher levels of performance, further extends VIA’s leadership in the global mini-note market."
