Smallest flash drive

Imation has released what it believes to be the smallest flash drive to date. The Atom flash drive is roughly the size of a paperclip at 3.8cm long and 1.27cm wide.

The Atom includes password protection, partitioning software and Windows Vista ReadyBoost, which means the Atom can be used as caching memory to give computers a memory boost when plugged in.

"Just as the atom refers to the smallest molecular particle, the Atom Flash Drive refers to the smallest portable storage device in our extensive portfolio," said Imation country manager Peter Welsh. "Imation continues to demonstrate its channel leadership by introducing the data storage technology and small form factors that tech savvy professionals demand."

The Atom is available in storage capacities of between 1GB and 8GB of data.

The mini flash drive doesn’t require any additional software to be used on Linux, Mac and Windows machines.

The release of the Atom boosts Imation’s mini flash drive lineup which already includes the Nano, a slightly larger drive also available in data capacities of between 1 and 8GB.
