Dell rolls out new range

Popular hardware maker, Dell, yesterday announced a brand new range of laptops ranging from ultra-portables to high-end desktop replacement machines. The company also announced Latitude ON, an instant-on boot system that will make ultra-portable machines ready to go at the touch of a button.

The refreshed Dell Latitude and Precision range now includes the Latitude E4200, a 12.1-inch ultra-portable weighing in at just 1kg. The slightly larger 13.3-inch Latitude E4300 clocks in at just 1.5kgs.

For users who don’t need an ultra-portable, Dell now has the 15.1-inch E6500 and the 14.1-inch E5400 and E6400. The most outstanding feature of the E6400 is the claimed 19 hours of battery life, making it an ideal all-day machine. The E6400 is also available as the ATG, a semi-rugged laptop weighing in at 2.5kgs and ideal for outdoor use.

The company also previewed Dell Latitude ON, a new technology that will enable near-instant access to email, calendar, attachments, contacts and the Web without booting into the system’s main operating system. Expected in the coming months on the Latitude E4200 and E4300, Dell Latitude ON uses a dedicated low-voltage sub-processor and embedded Linux to give instant access to email and the Web. Latitude ON will only be available on the E4200 and E4300, however.

Dell also announced a new range of Precision mobile workstations yesterday. Aimed at the engineering sectors, the Precision M4400 is a 15.4-inch mobile workstation sporting up to 8GB of memory. The 14.1-inch Precision M2400 is the lightest mobile workstation weighing in at just 2.16kgs.

For serious high-end users Dell also previewed a 17-inch mobile workstation which has up to 16GB of memory and a 1GB graphics card. Still to be released, the monster machine mobile will include a quad core processor.
