Not just for gamers
MICROSOFT MAKES SOME awesome keyboards and as time goes by they keep branching off to make more and more niche products – one being the Reclusa Gaming keyboard (Reclusa image here). The first thing you notice is its keyboard has a nice rounded shape and feels heavier than the average office keyboard, even heavier than many of the top of the range Microsoft keyboards.
The second thing is that it attaches via USB to the computer. In this era of wireless everything, that may seem like a step backwards but in the world of computer gaming a USB cable is a faster and more reliable way of connecting to a PC. The last thing you want in the heat of battle is to drop the connection to your PC and end up losing the game. The third thing you’re likely to notice is the multitude of buttons on the keyboard. Most of those can be customised to suit the game you’re playing, which for the serious gamer is a real godsend.
All that’s before you plug in the keyboard and notice it lights up with a great blue backlight. In the low light conditions, which you might find at a competitive gaming event, that’s more than a cool gimmick but vital in enhancing speed and accuracy. There are also two extra USB ports for plugging in headsets and mouses, minimising the need to spend time under your desk. I tend to prefer keyboards with a softer key touch and so I wasn’t entirely comfortable with the more robust keys on this keyboard but I’m sure I’m in the minority.
While Microsoft has designed this with the gamer in mind, I can imagine many users looking for something a little different would find it an attractive option. At more than R500 it isn’t the cheapest around but given the punishment many gamers put their keyboards through, this one is likely to be one of the strongest.
