AMD's new Deneb
Earlier this week Intel announced the launch of its new Core i7 CPU with early reviews suggesting that the i7 offers very impressive performance.
Many have speculated that Intel’s new i7 "borrows" some ideas from AMD by incorporating an integrated memory controller which has helped the i7 return some very impressive performance figures. AMD on the other hand is not going down without a fight and is readying its quad-core Deneb CPUs.
Digitimes have published some details on the new CPU saying that the Phenom X4 20550 and 20350 are expected to launch with core frequencies of 3GHz and 2.8GHz respectively.
AMD have already announced that initially its new line is not intended to compete with Intel’s new enthusiast products. The company says that, unlike Intel’s i7, a motherboard upgrade will not be necessary to run AMD’s new chip. Instead, current AM2+ motherboards will simply require a bios update.
The Digitimes article also stated that AMD would be launching six new 45nm triple-core CPUs in the first quarter of 2009.
The company is expected to follow this with the release of six more 45nm triple-core CPUs in the first quarter of 2009. Another 6 45nm high end quad-core CPUs will follow in the third quarter of 2009.
AMD declined to comment on the leaked information, stating they do not like to discuss unannounced products.
