Boot Windows in four seconds

Always a little ahead of the mainstream, Taiwanese motherboard maker Asustek has a new trick up its sleeve: A system that can boot Microsoft’s Windows operating system in just a few seconds.

CustomPC reports that Asustek, the same company behind the Asus EEE PC, says that its budget motherboard wing, ASRock, has a new product called Instant Boot.

Instant Boot uses the built-in S3 and S4 features of the ACPI power interface included in computers to boot an operating system in three to four seconds, even after a full shut down. ACPI is usually used to enable the sleep, standby and hibernation modes on computers.

The Instant Boot system is still in early development but can already be enabled on five of ASRock’s current motherboards. At this time the Instant Boot system works only on Windows XP or Vista versions under certain conditions.
