Sony’s new Bravia pricing
Sony has announced its newest series of Bravia HD TVs.
The X450A series has just launched locally and replaces the award winning X300. Sony’s Bravia televisions traditionally cater to high-end consumers and are known to offer impressive visual quality at premium prices. The X450A series is not looking to change that.

Specifications
The X450A introduces the Bravia engine 2, a high definition video processor that features picture enhancement technologies such as the DRC-MF v3 (Digital Reality Creation). The engine’s primary task is to maintain high image quality from various sources, up-scaling non HDTV signals and rendering various resolutions on the native full HD panel.
The new RGB Dynamic LED backlighting technology has been designed to deliver rich vibrant colours. Combining the red, blue and green LEDs with dynamic backlight control, Sony claim that the X450A can generate rich dark tones that replicate the most natural images for viewing.
Sony’s Motionflow technology operates at 100Hz and is able to deliver 100 frames per second, which if implemented as advertised will provide exceedingly smooth playback.
The new X450A also features Sony’s XrossMediaBar and Bravia Sync. This enables an interface which allows for navigation of various media content from different sources.
The Bravia X-series adheres to the Digital Living Network Alliance, and is designed to optimise interoperability of connected devices on a home network.
The 46” and 55” sets both operate an impressive 1million:1 dynamic contrast ration, with the 40” sporting a still impressive 50000:1 ratio.
All the TVs include a comprehensive input list, including USB 2.0, 4 HDMI ports, a digital media port and Ethernet connection.
Is it worth it?
It cannot be denied that on paper the X450A looks impressive. The series is packed with some very interesting features, and if its predecessor is anything to go by it will render an extremely high quality picture.
However, at R35000 for the entry level 40” unit, it remains to be seen whether the X450A series is worth its high price.
