New broadband hardware launched
O-Tel, a new competitor in South Africa’s telecoms landscape, has launched their OBOX service, an all-in-one device that gives businesses DSL and 3G connectivity, Wi-Fi and Ethernet switching, and basic PBX functions in a single box.
The OBOX includes an ADSL modem, an integrated 3G modem which can be used as an automatic back-up in the event that the ADSL service goes down, Wi-Fi capabilities, VoIP connectivity and a Digital PBX. The OBOX includes a single FXO port to cater for an incoming PSTN line and provides two analogue extension ports so that the client can connect two analogue telephones to the device.
“The OBOX is a simple solution that allows small businesses to save money on their phone bills while improving the reliability of their telephony and Internet services,” said Mohammad Patel, CEO of O-Tel. “Even if the Telkom line goes down, clients are still connected to the world through 3G and the O-Tel digital network for voice and Internet services.”
The OBOX can be purchased with or without a 3G connection from as little as R2 999 or R175 per month on a lease.
SMC Networks, a global provider of LAN hardware and broadband connectivity devices, has laos launched two new devices in the local market: its HomePlug AV Ethernet Adapter and a Wireless 3G Broadband Router.
The HomePlug AV Ethernet Adapter promises data transfer rates of up to 200Mbps, making it a suitable replacement for standard Ethernet or Wi-Fi networks.
According to SMC Networks the HomePlug adapter is easy to install and turns each available AC power outlet into a network connection point. “The Ethernet port simply connects to network-enabled devices such as PCs, modems, routers or gaming consoles,” says Paul Luff, country manager at SMC Networks South Africa.
128-bit AES encryption guarantees maximum data security. It also supports the Quality of Service to manage data rates of up to 200Mbps, allowing multimedia streaming, IPTV, VoIP and broadband networking.
“With the ever increasing demand for real-time applications, customers are increasingly looking for the easiest way to extend their networks with affordable hardware,” comments Thierry Gonon, General Manager EMEA at SMC Networks. “The new HomePlug AV Adapter is simple to set up and cost effective as users can simply plug one into an AC power outlet near the device they want to add to the network.”
SMC Networks also launched their 3G wireless N broadband router aimed at the residential and business market. “This 3G router is the perfect option for those who wish to get connected remotely, with ease and in a secure fashion. It also allows the users’ peers to join them online, without relying on wireless hotspots being available,” says Paul Luff, country manager, SMC Networks South Africa.
