New Western Digital 2TB hard drive
Drive Control Corporation (DCC) today announced that it is set to locally distribute Western Digital’s AV-GP line of hard drives which will include a 2TB version.
The WD AV-GP line, which is designed for use in media centres, set top boxes, media servers and surveillance video recording includes a number of features that assist in keeping the drives cooler and quieter. These are essential factors for such markets which often require constant operation from their drives.
According to the company the WD AV-GP line reduces power consumption by up to 40 percent over standard drives in their respective classes.
“Consumer electronics customers require hard drives that consume less power, generate less heat, and operate quietly” says Vassen Naicker, of DCC. “Audio and video recording applications, such as DVRs, media servers, media centres, and surveillance systems, often demand 24/7 operation from hard drives. Our drives meet the demanding requirements of these markets including higher reliability, universal compatibility and low power consumption””
The AV-GP line of hard drives are designed to operate in high temperature always-on environments such as those found in PVR/DVR, DVR recorders and surveillance video recorders.
Additionally noise levels have been minimised to less than one sone1 which is almost below the threshold of human hearing.
The line also offers compatibility in a broad range of AV products including set-top boxes, DVD recorders, and mainstream surveillance systems.
Pre-emptive Wear Levelling (PWL) technology, which the devices also feature, means that the drive arm of frequently sweeps across the disk to reduce uneven wear on the drive surface common to audio video streaming applications.
The 2TB version offers capacity for up to 240 hours of High Definition (HD) video.
The WD AV-GP 2 TB hard drive is available from DCC’s resellers, which include Makro, Waltons and Stax, at R3174.00 inclusive of V.A.T.
