AMD launches 785G chipset

According to AMD strong Windows 7 pre-order sales shows consumers are looking to change their existing operating systems. When combined with AMD Athlon II processors, the resulting platform offers a favorable Windows 7 environment that is designed for HD entertainment and gaming.

The new 785G chipset offers Direct X 10.1 support, UVD2 for GPU enabled decoding, HDMI 1.3 and Display port support, side port memory support for DDR3/DDR2 performance cache and RAID support.

Additionally it will be the first AMD chipset with ATI stream technology which, according to the company, offers better video transcoding and application performance.

This new chipset is just the first of a number of developments that AMD intends to launch in 2009. Other initiatives include an extension to the Phenom II range with the 965 which reportedly achieves a standard clock speed of 3.4GHz, new DirectX 11 graphics processors planned for release in November as well as recently released Athlon CPU updates.
