AMD to launch Phenom II X4 975
AMD is currently developing the next instalment in its Phenom II X4 line of flagship desktop CPUs reports Fudzilla.
The Phenom II X4 975 will be based on the Deneb quad core platform which involves a 45 nanometre manufacturing process, although the TDP’s (Thermal Design Points) may be as high as 140W.
The Phenom II X4 range has been increasing in increments of 200Mhz in terms of standard frequencies. If the range were to continue in this manner then it is possible that the 975 will run at a standard frequency of 3.6Ghz – 200Mhz faster than the recently released AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition, which runs at 3.4Ghz.
Currently there has been no confirmation given regarding price points or availability.
In addition reports show that AMD is also working on a six core desktop CPU based on its Istanbul server and workstation platform. This will be released in 2010 and is set to compete with Intel’s six core Gulftown CPU which is based on a 32nm process.
