Toshiba mini NB200 introduced

Toshiba has today announced the mini NB200 netbook. Weighing in at 1.18kg, the device is powered by the 1.6 GHz Intel Atom Processor N270 or the 1.66 GHz Intel Atom Processor N280, with the Intel 945GSE graphics chipset handling the visuals. A drive of up to 160GB may be selected.

The mini-notebook has a 10.1” LED backlight display and consumers can choose between a 3-cell battery which offers up to 4 hours of battery life or a 6-cell version offering 9 hours.  Wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11 b/g) and integrated Mobile Broadband (on selected models) provides connectivity.

Data protection is important with portable devices, as bumps and knocks occur from time to time. A 3D-accelerometer detects free falls, shocks or vibrations and rapidly moves the HDD head from between the platters, protecting valuable data stored on the HDD.

It also comes with Bluetooth and three USB 2.0 slots, one of which features a “Sleep-and-Charge” mode. The mini-notebook comes in an “attention grabbing design,” with a matt finish and a textured cover. Glossy black is an alternative.

According to Reon Coetzee, Toshiba Computer Systems Sales Manager for SADC & ROA, consumers consider mini-notebooks as secondary or third communications devices. “[The] mini NB200 responds to this demand and offers a perfect balance of portability, quality and usability without compromising any of them. Consumers value the design aspect more in smaller devices.  We took this into account and the mini NB200 represents an elegant design statement.”

The recommended retail price for the Toshiba mini NB200 is R5 999.
