Internet crime figure awaits sentencing
Thirty-three-year-old Renukanth Subramaniam, a native of Sri Lanka, allegedly was a senior figure in running DarkMarket, a Web site that was shut down after being infiltrated by investigators from the United States and other countries.
Subramaniam has pleaded guilty to one conspiracy count and to five charges of furnishing false information, and was remanded in custody following a court appearance on Thursday.
Britain’s Serious Organized Crime Agency said that more than 60 people have been arrested around the world in the DarkMarket investigation, which was led by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation.
