Opera upgrades Mini, tops 20 million users
Browser maker Opera will today release a preview of version 4.2 of its Mini web browser for mobile phones. The new version allows for more personalisation and better multimedia handling.
The company has also announced that it’s Opera Mini browser is now being used by more than 20 million users around the world.
The latest version of the Opera Mini browser, version 4.2 beta, includes a range of skins which allow users to personalise their browser. Version 4.2 also includes improved support for YouTube and other mobile video services on a wider selection of mobile phones.
One of the key things Opera has built its browser around is the ability to synchronise information between the desktop and mobile phone versions of its browser. With this release the Opera Mini allows users to share notes between their mobile phones and PCs, as well as sharing their bookmarks and recently-visited URLs.
Originally launched in January 2006, Opera Mini runs on most mobile platforms and is now used by tens of millions of users around the world. This past month, however, the company hit a new high. During October 2008 Opera reported 20 million unique monthly users of Opera Mini. This was a significant increase over the September numbers of 19 million unique uses. And during September Opera Mini users viewed an average of 238 pages.
