Telkom supports OpenDNS
Telkom has recently started to support OpenDNS on the SAIX network to the delight of many customers. Telkom said that its decision to support OpenDNS was largely based on inputs and requests after consultation with various customers and Internet Service Provider clients.
According to OpenDNS it is the leading provider of free security and infrastructure services that make the Internet safer through integrated Web content filtering, anti-phishing and DNS. "OpenDNS services enable consumers and network administrators to secure their networks from online threats, reduce costs and enforce Internet-use policies. OpenDNS is used today by millions of users and organizations around the world," the OpenDNS website states.
To give users access to the OpenDNS service Telkom implemented a bypass policy for the OpenDNS webservers. "Saix-connected internet users are now able to fully utilise the facilities and functionality provided by the OpenDNS service," Telkom said.
This move was widely welcomed by Telkom subscribers. "It’s fantastic that SAIX have come to the party to help out with ensuring our kids’ welfare is protected on the internet," said one Telkom user.
There were also calls from consumers for other ISPs to follow Telkom’s lead and give users access to the OpenDNS service on their network.
