Gmail downtime
Google’s popular webmail service Gmail experienced downtime today. Users trying the access their accounts at around 10:00 GMT were greeted with the message: “Temporary Error (500). We’re sorry, but your Gmail account is temporarily unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience and suggest trying again in a few minutes.” The exact cause of the problem is still unknown.
This downtime comes a few weeks after two previous downtimes, one in February and one in early March. In March Google said that the downtime only affected “a small subset of users”. It is not clear how many users were affected by today’s outage, but numerous South African subscribers reported access problems when trying to use Gmail.
The service was restored around 15 minutes after the initial problems were reported.
