Amazon starts shipping to SA again
Last year news broke that online retail giant Amazon was no longer shipping to South African using its standard postal services. It was reported that the high incidents of postal theft and lost parcels necessitated this decision by Amazon.
This decision seems to have been reversed, and local Amazon clients can now use standard or expedited shipping options when using Amazon.com, something which all Amazon Global users have access to.
Amazon Global is a list of a number of international countries that have been approved by the company to receive shipped items through conventional shipping methods such as the national postal service. South Africa is currently part of this list.
In a recent test it was possible to order goods from Amazon.com and ship them to South Africa via the standard or expedited shipping options. Several items, including books, music and DVDs, were ordered without incidence.
The standard shipping cost on each item amounted to $13.98 (R118) and would take 18 to 32 business days to arrive. The expedited shipping cost on each item was $20.98 (R177) and would take 6 to 16 business days to arrive.
Amazon and the South African Post Office (SAPO) were contacted for comment, but did not provide any feedback by the time of publication.
