New Microsoft search engine coming

Software giant Microsoft is to unveil its new Internet search engine code-named “Kumo” at a conference with the business daily Wall Street Journal next week, the paper reported Wednesday.

The paper said Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer will present the new search engine in Carlsbad, California at a conference titled “D: All Things Digital.”

Kudo would succeed the current Microsoft Live Search engine in the company’s latest bid to try to regain lost ground against its chief competitors Google and Yahoo!

According to the market research company comScore, Microsoft’s share of the US search engine market fell in April to just 8.2 percent, compared with 64.2 percent for Google and 20.4 percent for Yahoo!
