Continued website growth in SA

The Online Publishers Association (OPA) announced that the total number of unique visitors for the first quarter of 2009 was 11,013,156, up from 8,571,440 over the same period last year.  This constitutes a year on year growth of around 12% or 2.5-million unique visitors.

The OPA says that the growth figures are equally strong when analysing South African traffic only.  The total number of local unique visitors in the first quarter of 2009 was 6,055,955, up from 4,835,607 a year ago.  The growth of 25%, or 1.2-million unique visitors, bears testament of the strong online growth in the local market.

According to the latest audited OPA statistics the top 10 websites in South Africa, which constitute a significant amount of total online traffic in the country, are: News24, IOL News, MSN, Hotmail, CompleatGolfer, Webmail, TheTimes, MWEB, MyBroadband and Supersport.
