Fake Twitter

The counterfeit Miliband comments were picked up by a number of British and other media, including AFP, after the US pop legend died in Los Angeles on Thursday.

But the Foreign Office said Miliband does not have a Twitter account, noting that a number of media had also picked up a false “tweet” from him commenting on a Bob Dylan concert, which he did not attend.

“This is an apposite moment for us to point out (as some commentators suspect) that the Foreign Secretary does not have a Twitter account,” it said in an email to media.

The fake Miliband comment, included on a Twitter account page set up in his name, said of Jackson: “Never has one soared so high and yet dived so low. RIP Michael”.
