Microsoft exodus

Microsoft South Africa’s staff woes show no sign of abating as a growing number of key staff members leave the company.

Earlier this week the company announced that managing director, Pfungwa Serima, was to leave the company at the end of July. Serima took over as MD in August 2006, succeeding Gordon Frazer. Serima will now take up the MD position at SAP Africa.

Close on the heels of Serima’s resignation comes the news that two other key staff members are soon to leave the company. IT Online reports that financial director, Nicola Dewar, also tendered her resignation last week, and that Henry Ferreira, head of Microsoft’s enterprise and partners group, is to leave the company.

Ferreira, an industry stalwart who was previously MD of Hewlett-Packard SA, as well as a senior executive at HP UK and Nokia, was appointed to the Microsoft job in September last year.

Microsoft’s current staff woes follows last year’s high turnover rate which saw a number of key executives leaving the company. Among these were Danny Naidoo of the developer and platform group, Jonathan Hatchuel, Windows group manager, Belinda Godfrey, director of the small midmarket solutions, and Bradley Hopkinson, regional director of OEM for the Middle East and Africa region.

And in January last year, just days before the launch of Windows Vista, Goona Sagaren Udayan, OEM manager at Microsoft SA resigned.
