IE8 delayed until 2009
Microsoft will not release Internet Explorer 8 this year as originally speculated. Although the company is quick to point out that it never actually promised to release the new browser this year, it was widely expected by industry. The browser is already in beta 2 format and has been for a number of months now.
According to Dean Hachamovith, Internet Explorer’s general Manager, the Internet Explorer team is now planning to release a final preview of IE8 in the first quarter of next year, with a final release following that.
Internet Explorer 8 is expected to be the most standards-compliant browser released by Microsoft to date.
IE8 is also expected to have greatly improved crash protection which will ensure that if one open tab crashes it won’t bring down the entire browser.
The biggest changes in IE8 will likely be around security which will include protection against malicious ActiveX controls.
