Microsoft enrolls users to test Vista SP2
Last week Microsoft released its Windows Vista and Server 2008 Server Pack 2 release candidate to MSDN and TechNet subscribers. Now the company has released the same software to all users for general testing.
Service Pack 2 brings a number of changes and bug fixes for Vista users. Among these are support for VIA’s new 64-bit CPU and Windows Vista Feature Pack for Wireless, which includes support for Bluetooth v2.1 and Windows Connect Now (WCN) Wi-Fi configuration. Vista SP2 also improves Wi-Fi resume times after hibernation.
One of the more notable improvements in SP2 is the ability to now record in the Blu-Ray format disks.
SP2 also includes smaller changes such as better performance in the RSS feeds sidebar application and Windows Search 4.0. Windows Search 4.0 helps find and preview documents, e-mail, music files, photos, and other items on the computer.
Also included is the ability for users to modify the maximum number of open TCP connections to increase application compatibility.
This service pack is also for Windows Server 2008 which includes the Hyper-V virtualisation environment as a fully-integrated, free feature. The installation includes one free daughter OS with Windows Server 2008 Standard, four free licences with Windows Server 2008 Enterprise and an unlimited number of free licences with Windows Server 2008 Datacenter.
