Local Snow Leopard OS availability confirmed
Earlier this week the Core Group, exclusive distributors of Apple goods in South Africa, revealed that South African users would have access to the new Mac Snow Leopard operating system on its international release date.
“The product should be available from Friday [28 August] at all Apple Premium Resellers or early next week in the larger retailers, all going well with the shipment,” said a Core representative.
Local availability at premium iStores has now been confirmed. Managers at iStore Sandton, iStore Waterfront, iStore Gateway and iStore Menlyn have all acknowledged that copies of Snow Leopard are in stock and available.
The flagship iStore at 1 Sandton Drive revealed that single pack copies will start retailing at 13:00 today at a price of R329. While they could not confirm how many copies are available the representative believed that the stock would last throughout the weekend.
The iStore at Menlyn, Pretoria received roughly fifty copies but has already sold forty of these since opening shop this morning.
Cape Town Mac users have access to roughly 150 copies at present through the iStore at the V&A Waterfront, while an unconfirmed number had “just arrived” at the iStore in Gateway, Kwazulu Natal.
In addition ZA Store, the Core Group’s online retailer, has an unconfirmed number of copies currently in stock.
Cool Apple Buddy in Sandton, an allegedly unofficial importer of Apple goods, could not confirm when it would have stock of Snow Leopard or at which price point.
