Neotel sets record straight about InfraCo
In a recent ITWeb article, Neotel spokesperson Mala Suriah apparently blamed the latest service offering delay on Infraco. Suriah was quoted as saying that “It was a real show-stopper.”
In an official response Neotel said that “It is public knowledge that there are ongoing discussions at a high level in government and parliament on the final structure of Infraco, and Neotel has contributed to this process formally.”
Suriah however says that these interactions and discussions have in no way hindered the progress of Neotel's network build and organisational build. Neotel has also previously made it clear that InfraCo is not influencing the company at operational level.
Neotel further confirmed that it is planning the formal launch of its voice, data and Internet services for enterprises this year.
“We are currently piloting our systems and processes with a number of friendly enterprise customers, in addition to continuing to deliver on a number of major wholesale and enterprise national data contracts. More details of Neotel's progress in its rollout and in signing up large customers will be made available over the next few weeks.”
The company is currently trialing their CDMA based Internet and voice offerings for the residential and SMME market, and while there is no official launch date, Neotel said that there will be commercial customers on its network before year end.
