Consumers next for Neotel

Speaking at the company’s Enterprise service launch Neotel Managing Director, Ajay Pandey said that their CDMA based high speed Internet and voice service launch is set for early 2008.

This converged service – a combination of Internet and voice – is currently in pilot phase in Johannesburg and Pretoria with 125 users on the CDMA2000 EV-DO Rev A network.

According to Pandey the voice quality is exceptional and users can expect Internet speeds of up to 3.1 Mbps. Pandey further said that their commercial double-play service will be made available as soon as they are happy with the service quality and equipment availability.

Neotel knows what irritates consumers

Angus Hay, Neotel’s Executive Head of Strategy, said that the company is well aware of the issues with current Internet offerings which irritate users and that they will aim to address these irritations.

Hay did not want to divulge specific details about Neotel’s product offerings, but he did hint that users may not find their service as restrictive as current broadband packages which are characterized by very low monthly usage limits.

Only the beginning

Neotel’s high speed Internet and voice service is however only a first step in the company’s plans in the residential converged service market.

The company will also offer broadband offerings using WiMax – which will co-exist alongside its CDMA network – and wireline technologies like Metro Ethernet.
