More channels for R 139 DSTV Select
Vodacom’s DSTV Select which was launched earlier this year at a price of R 139-00 per month, has added six more channels to its initial bouquet of 16 channels.
The new channels are Al Jazeera, Magic World, TBN, Rhema, Mindset Learn and Soweto TV.
The Vodacom DSTV Select Bouquet now consists of a selection of 23 channels, 28 radio stations, 4 DMX Music Channels, shopping channels and interactive services.
DSTV Select subscribers still have to choose between either Kyknet or MNet Series & Hallmark as part of their bouquet.
EasyView DSTV
Multichoice has also recently enhanced their R 20-00 per month, lower tier DSTV EasyView bouquet which now boasts 10 video channels, 5 data channels and 28 radio stations. It was originally launched in 2002 with only four channels.
The EasyView service includes SABC1, SABC2, SABC 3, eTV, Soweto TV, Magic World, Al Jazeera, CNBC Africa, the Parliamentary Channel and IQRAA.
The data channels include Weather 24, News24, PlayJam and dedicated advertising locations or DAL’s. Some of the radio stations include Yfm, 702 Talk Radio, Kaya FM and BBC World.
Stronger foothold in the market
Many of the newly licensed pay-TV operators have indicated that they will be targeting the emerging middle class with low cost offerings, generally in the region of R 100-00 per month.
Multichoice seems well aware of this strategy and is making certain that they use the last few months of their monopoly to entrench themselves in the market.
Apart from aggressively marketing and enhancing their lower end offerings, they have also launched a free Web-TV service for their high end customers and have indicated that they will also launch an HDTV service in 2008.
