EASSy mum on project progress
The East African Submarine Cable System (EASSy) consortium last year announced that they have signed agreements with various financial institutions – something which gave a massive boost to the $ 235-Million project.
It was further announced that cable construction will begin in mid-December, and the cable is expected to be fully operational in time for the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa.
It was not entirely clear whether the necessary marine survey had been conducted or whether suitable vessels have been booked.
In the past the project missed numerous self-set deadlines, and the EASSy consortium was contacted last week to establish whether the cable construction has indeed begun, if there are any concrete time frames for the project and whether there was in fact any progress since their announcement last year.
To this the EASSy consortium merely replied that they do not wish to comment on these questions at this time.
