Vox goes Free
Last year was the soft-launch of Vox Telecom’s ADSL Phone – and ADSL based Voice-over-IP (VoIP) solution which competes directly against Telkom’s current voice services. Vox Telecom’s initial offering included free on-net calls in off peak times with peak time on-net calls charged at R 0.15 per minute.
In a bold move the company has declared that all on-net calls will be free which means that their subscribers can now call each other for free in both off peak and peak times.
The company further announced bundled international packages at R 100 for 500 minutes which can be used for calls to the UK, USA, US, Canada, Israel, Australia and most Western European countries.
Vox Telecom has concluded interconnection agreements with all major operators, including Telkom, MTN, Vodacom and Cell C. This means that Vox ADSL Phone subscribers can receive calls from all major operators.
Good news for cellular users is that the mobile operators are classifying the calls from their networks to Vox’s 087 numbers as ‘other network’ which means that free minutes apply to these calls.
Vox Telecom recently said that they have in excess of 1 000 beta-phase subscribers on their network, and they hope to grow this number to between 10 000 and 20 000 towards the second quarter of this year after the official launch of the service in the next few months.
