DSTV price increase in April

Multichoice announced in an email to subscribers that it will increase the price for its DStv Bouquet by R 29.09 from the first of April. The new cost will be R468.99 per month – up from the usual R439.90 per month.

The monthly cost for PVR and Dual View subscribers stays at R55. This means that DSTV PVR subscribers can expect to pay R 523.99 from 1 April.

Good news for DStv Compact, DStv Select and DSTV Easy View subscribers is that their monthly cost will remain unchanged. The subscription prices for these three services will remain at R199.00, R139.00 and R20.00 per month respectively.

Subscribers unhappy

Some DSTV subscribers are not entirely happy with the price increase. “They'd better add some new channels. R524 is just crazy. I'm so sick of it,” said a DSTV PVR subscriber in the DSTV forums.

“Its getting out of hand, they are milking us for what they can,” said another subscriber, “I can assure you that I will be first to jump ship.”

Pay-TV competitors Telkom Media and ODM are expected to launch services directly competing with DSTV later this year.
