Network problems hit broadband users

Broadband users have been hit by hick-ups on both the Verizon Business and the SAIX networks, but thankfully the problems have been resolved just in time for the Easter weekend.

A problem on the Verizon Business network, which affected traffic between Johannesburg and Cape Town, started just before 11:00am today.

This problem caused high latency and packet loss coupled with some website inaccessibility, but was resolved around mid-day.

In another incident, Vodacom HSDPA subscribers suffered downtime and had trouble accessing international websites which seems to have been caused by faults on the SAIX network.

“We can confirm that there were no network problems on Vodacom's mobile broadband network infrastructure. However, customers would have experienced connectivity problems and/or slow throughput due to a failure in the internet infrastructure beyond the Vodacom network,” said Dot Field, Chief Communications Officer, Vodacom Group.

Vodacom said that their testing indicates that the issue has been resolved.
