SABC not firing CEO Mpofu
The SA Broadcasting Corporation has rejected a Sunday Times report that it was planning to fire its CEO, Dali Mpofu, the broadcaster said.
Chairwoman Khanyisile Mkhonza rejected insinuations in the article – 'New Board guns for SABC boss' (Sunday Times, April 13) – that the board was planning to fire Mpofu.
The SABC board had discussed several concerns while carrying out its oversight role and while monitoring the performance of the SABC's management, Mkhonza said.
"The Board appointed an internal committee to consider these issues in detail and to advise the Board accordingly," she said.
"The step to appoint this committee is neither extraordinary nor unique but is within its mandate and normal oversight function.
"It is regrettable that this confidential Board matter was prematurely brought to the public sphere before the anticipated processes are completed.
A public statement would be issued after the Board had met and finalised the issues, Mkhonza said.
