Double whammy hits MG Online
News broke recently that both MG Online general manager, Matthew Buckland, and Strategist, Vincent Maher, will leave the company. Buckland will join Naspers’ 24.com while Maher will join Vodacom as manager of their social media portfolio.
Buckland is widely seen as the driving force behind the success of MG Online which he joined eight years ago. During his tenure at the helm of MG online the website’s traffic has grown 9-fold and online revenues have grown 21-fold.
“I feel that I’m leaving on a high note, with the business in excellent shape and the new website and CMS developed and launched,” said Buckland.
The team of Buckland and Maher was also behind many of the company’s social media initiatives like Amatomu.com, Amagama.com, News In Photos, The Guide, Thought Leader and the new M&G news site that went live this week.
“My primary motivation for joining Vodacom is that I believe that mobile media is at a point the Web was in 1994, ready to explode. I want to continue being innovative and I think the birth of the 7th mass medium is a place I want to be,” said Maher.
