Final stage for licence conversion

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has now entered the final stage of the Licence Conversion Process.

The draft individual broadcasting licences were published in the government gazette notice No. 31122 while the draft Individual ECNS and ECS licences have been published in the government gazette notice No. 31177.

According to ICASA documentation, Telkom, Sentech, Neotel, Cell C, MTN, Vodacom, WBS (iBurst), Swiftnet, Fleetcall, Q-Trunk and Orbicom are in line for the much prized Individual ECNS licences.

Individual ECS licences will be awarded to a variety of current VANS and communications service providers.

ICASA warned various current licensees who did not submit information as requested that there was an 18 July deadline to do so and that licensees who do not submit information as requested do so at their own risk. Some of these licensees include Datapro, the Post Office, Storm Telecom, MTN and Neotel.
