SAIX-Verizon woes continue

Over the past few months SAIX based ADSL users have expressed frustration with network problems – often related to SAIX-Verizon peering issues – on the Verizon network. In many instances the problems were related to the provider’s Johannesburg-Cape Town link.

These problems seem to have flared up again recently with ADSL users experiencing high packet loss when accessing websites hosted on the Verizon Business network in Cape Town.

According to the Hetzner notice board SAIX / Verizon Peering Issues are causing clients connecting via SAIX ADSL to their Cape Town based services to experiencing packet loss as a result of CRC errors.

It is not clear what the main cause of the continued problems is and Verizon Business was contacted for comment on the issue. Unfortunately the company said that they could not comment on the problem because of the MTN/Verizon announcement of last week.

SAIX and Verizon engineers are attending to the problem.
